This trek starts after a 7-hour bus ride to Pokhara. From Pokhara, you will drive to Nayapul. From Nayapul, you will trek right next to Modi Khola. The gushing waters of this region will always accompany you during the Annapurna Base Camp trek.

Due to the abundance of water resources, you will be able to see many streams, rivers, and majestic waterfalls in this trek. You will cross these rivers and streams in suspension bridges that make your trek quite thrilling.

Best Time for Annapurna Base Camp Trek

Two of the best seasons for trekking to Annapurna Base Camp are the seasons of spring and autumn. Spring falls in the month of March, April, and May while and autumn season falls in the months of September, October, and November.

In the spring season, the amount of rainfall, as well as the amount of sunshine, is moderate. The wind speed is also gentle. So, the chances of cloud covering the views of the mountains are also quite low.

Spring is also the time when the rhododendron forests in the Annapurna Base Camp light up with its glowing red color. This makes the spring trek to Annapurna Base Camp a unique experience.

The weather conditions of autumn season are almost identical to spring. The major difference is that you won’t be able to catch the spectacular views of rhododendron in autumn.

Apart from these seasons, you can also trek to Annapurna Base Camp in the winters. Winters offer the best views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri range. There is almost no chance of rain or fuzzy views of mountains.

However, you have to prepare for the cold in the mountainous regions in winters better than in other seasons. There might be snowfall in winters. So, you might have difficulty in tracing the trekking trail. It is almost a compulsion to take a guide in this season.

Finally, you can also complete a summer trek to Annapurna Base Camp. But you have to prepare for rainfall well. You need to have the proper gear to protect yourself from rainfall. You will also need sturdy trekking boots with a firm grip to prevent slipping in wet trails.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek Difficulty

Annapurna Base Camp trek is a moderately difficult trek. This is mainly due to the low altitudes during this trek. The trekking trails are also quite easy to hike in.

The highest point in the Annapurna Base Camp trek is the Annapurna Base Camp itself. It lies at an altitude of 4130 meters. This is quite low in comparison to other high-altitude treks in Nepal.

The amount of altitude you will gain each day in this trek is also quite low. The highest altitude gain in this trek is when you get to Annapurna Base Camp from Himalaya. You will gain an altitude of 1200 meters this day.

The trekking trails of Annapurna Base Camp trek has some steep uphills as well as downhills. On average, you will hike for 5-6 hours each day in this trek. So, it is extremely important that you prepare well before embarking upon this trek.

At least one month of preparation for this trek will be ideal. Running, swimming, cycling, strength training, or hitting the gym to work on your fitness are some of the ways you can prepare for this trek.

If you complete at least a day hike before coming for the ABC trek, it will be extremely beneficial. A day’s hike will help you assess how well your body can handle trekking for a prolonged period of time.

As the trekking trails are quite smooth, even a person without any trekking experience can complete this trek. But you should make sure that you have had a good amount of physical preparation.

DAY 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m)

Day 02: Half day sightseeing tour of Kathmandu

DAY 03: Drive to Pokhara (820m)  6 - 7 hrs drive

DAY 04:  Drive to nayapool (1070m)and trek to Ghandruk (1940m) 4-5 hrs

DAY 05:  Ghandruk to Chhomrong (2170m)  5 - 6 hrs

DAY 06 : Chhomrong to Himalaya (2920m) 6-7 hrs

DAY 07: Himalaya to Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m) via Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3700m): 5- 6 hrs

DAY 08: Annapurna Base Camp to Bamboo (23110m) 7 – 8 hrs

DAY 09: Bamboo to Jhinu Danda (1780m): 5 - 6 hrs

DAY 10: Trek to Naya Pul then drive to Pokhara: 6 hours trek, 1 hour drive

Extended Trips

DAY 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m)

After arriving in Kathmandu, a representative from our company will pick up from the airport and take us to our hotel. In the afternoon, you may take a rest or visit our office.

Day 02: Half day sightseeing tour of Kathmandu

Early morning, after breakfast, you will be taken for a cultural tour of Kathmandu city. Some of the main highlights will be Pashupatinath Temple, Swayambhunath, Boudhanath, Kathmandu Durbar Square,  Patan Durbar.

Day 03: Drive to Pokhara (820m) 6-7 hrs drive

We drive to Pokhara early in the morning and enjoy amazing views of the valleys, hills and mountains from the bus windows. (6-7hrs drive)

Day 04: Trek to Ghandruk (1940m):  4 - 5 hrs Trek

We take early morning tourist bus to Pokhara, the beautiful lake city and catch great views of the Himalayas from the right side of our airplane. After landing at the Pokhara airport, we drive to Naya Pul (1 hour and 20 minutes) and start the trek. From Birethanti, we trek to Ghandruk, a beautiful village mostly inhabited by the Gurung community. If time permits, we also visit the Gurung museum today. Overnight in Ghandruk.

DAY 05: Ghandruk to Chhomrong (2170m):  5 - 6 Hrs

At this juncture, we climb up for around an hour up to Kimrungdanda. On the way, we can enjoy great views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Fishtail Mountain (Machhapuchhre) and Ganggapurna. A steep descent takes us to the Kimrong Khola. After another steep ascent from Kimrong Khola to Chere Danda, we descend for a while and then it’s a gentle walk to Chhomrong. Chhomrong is a beautiful village located on the lap of the giant Annapurna massive. Overnight in Chhomrong.

DAY 06: Chhomrong to Himalaya(2920m):  4 - 5 Hrs

We descend via 2500 stone steps and cross the bridge above Chhomrong Khola. From here it is an uphill climb to Sinuwa. Next, we pass through a beautiful forest to Kuldihar followed by an easy downhill walk to Bamboo and via Dovan to Himalaya. Overnight in Himalaya.

DAY 07: Himalaya to Annapurna Base Camp (4130m) via Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3700m):  5- 6 Hrs

An hour walk to Deurali and Climb gently through a river bed then over a steep trail over to the mountain side. The hike from Bagar to Machhapuchhre Base Camp is somewhat strenuous. From Machhapuchhre base camp, we get excellent views of the majestic Machhapuchhre along with Mt. Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Annapurna III, Gandharvachuli and Gangapurna which is certainly a rewarding experience. The vegetation disappears on our way to ABC and the path widens as we enter the Annapurna sanctuary. From here, we get sensational views of the near-vertical south face of Annapurna towering above us. The sanctuary boasts of a dynamic view without anything impeding the 360-degree panorama. From the base camp we again get to savor mesmerizing views of the Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Hiunchuli and other peaks. Overnight at Annapurna Base Camp.

DAY 08: Annapurna Base Camp to Bamboo (2310m)  7 – 8 hrs

From the Annapurna base camp, we retrace our steps to Bamboo. Today’s trek is downhill, so it shouldn’t be very difficult. Besides, we will always have the company of the extraordinary landscape to cheer us up. Overnight in Bamboo.

DAY 09: Bamboo to Jhinu Danda (1780m): 5 - 6 Hrs

From Bamboo, it is an uphill trek to Kuldighar followed by a downhill walk to Chhomrong Khola. Then we climb the stone steps to Chhomrong. The trail then descends to Jhinu Danda, where we will be resting for the night. Today we will have an opportunity to enjoy the hot springs which is just a 15-20 minute downhill walk from Jhinu Danda to soothe our aching body. Overnight in Jhinu Danda.

DAY 10: Trek to NayaPul then drive to Pokhara: 6 hrs trek, 1-hrs drive

On our way to Naya Pul from Jhinu Danda, we get to enjoy the amazing hill landscape of western Nepal. We have lunch on the way. Our trek will end at Naya Pul where we board our vehicle to Pokhara. Overnight in Pokhara.
*If the road construction connecting Jhinu Danda to Naya Pul is complete, driving from Jhinu Danda to Pokhara could be another option.

DAY 11: Leisure day in Pokhara.

Rest day at Pokhara, You can go for a city tour for a day if you want to.

DAY 12: Fly to Kathmandu

We fly to Kathmandu in the afternoon. After arriving in Kathmandu, we will be escorted to our hotel. We enjoy the day leisurely or catch up on some last minute shopping or explore any landmarks we missed during our first day in Kathmandu. To celebrate the successful completion of our journey, we will have a farewell dinner in the evening. Overnight in Kathmandu.

DAY 13: Final Departure

Our representative will drop us off at the airport approximately 3 hours before our scheduled flight. On our way to home, we have plenty of time to plan our next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal.
