Kathmandu Valley Rim Trekking by Great Adventure Treks is a wonderful, short, and easy trek in and around Kathmandu valley. With explorations of the cultural sights, traditional art, and architectures, as well as some crispy views of the mountains, Kathmandu Valley Rim Trekking is one of the best ways to get the feel of trekking in Nepal. Kathmandu Valley Rim Trekking by Great Adventure Treks starts after a drive to the scenic hill station of Sundarijal. You will start your trek from Sundarijal. From Sundarijal, you will trek inside the premises of Shivapuri National Park. The trek takes place inside the forested shades of the national park before arriving Chisapani. Chispani is a wonderful hilly settlement that gives you good views of Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, and Langtang. From Chispani, you will get to one of the best hill stations around Kathmandu valley- Nagarkot. Nagarkot is one of the most famous places for observing the sunrise views. As you can see 8 out of the 14 mountain ranges in Nepal from Nagarkot, it is a beautiful destination to spend your time.

After returning to Kathmandu valley from Nagarkot, you will go for a cultural exploration of Kathmandu valley. This includes a tour of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Kathmandu valley. This includes a visit to the World’s largest Hindu temple of Pashupatinath. You can learn about the Hindu culture as you visit the many shrines that surround the enclosure of this temple. You will also go to Swaymbhunath Temple (also known as Monkey Temple) and Boudhanath. Both of these monasteries give you a reflection of the influence of the Buddhist faith in Nepal. You will also head out to the historical sites of Kathmandu Durbar Square and Patan Durbar Square. A visit to these places is an exploration of the architecture of Nepal in medieval times. All along the way, you will get diverse picturesque scenery ranging from paddy fields to the high alpine area. You will be rewarded by views of world’s highest mountain range including Langtang, Ganesh Himal, Jugal Himal to Annapurna, Manaslu mountain range. Kathmandu Valley Rim Trekking Difficulty

Kathmandu Valley Rim Trekking is one of the easiest treks in Nepal. You will trek for merely 3 days in this trip. The altitude of the places you trek to is no more than 2500 meters. So, there are no risks of altitude sickness whatsoever. The most difficult part of this trek is the walk up to Chisapani Danda as you will encounter some steep uphills along the way. The rest of the trek is quite easy as the altitude gains are also quite low. So you can complete this trek without any trekking experience.

Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu 1,300m and transfer to Hotel

Day 02: Drive to Sundarijal and Trek to Chisapani via Shivapuri National Park (2130m)

Day 03: Trek to Nagarkot (2,175 m) 5 – 6 hrs.

Day 04: Trek to Dhulikhel (1550m) approx. 1,550m. 6 hrs.

Day 05: Drive back to Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel and half day sightseeing in Kathmandu.

Day 06: Transfer to Airport for International departure.

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel.

You will arrive at Tribhuvan Airport in Kathmandu. This is the one and only international airport in Nepal. The representatives of Great Adventure Treks will meet you outside of the airport terminal. You will head out to your hotel on a private transport with them. They will help you to check in your hotel quite easily. Our guide will give you all the relevant information about the hotel you will be staying as well as the Kathmandu Valley RIm Trekking. If you have other related information, you can get the answers from them.

Day 02: Drive to Sundarijal and Trek to Chisapani via Shivapuri National Park 7 hrs.

Sundarijal lies to the northwest of Kathmandu and only an hour drive away from Kathmandu city area. Sundarijal lies at a hilltop. It has quiet surroundings and skyline views of Mt. Gauri Shanker, Langtang, Choba Bhamare, Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, and Himal-chuli. From Sundarijal, you will start your trek to Chisapani. After trekking for half an hour or so, you will reach the entrance to Shivapuri National Park. From this point of entry, you will trek uphill along various stony steps as well as surrounding forests to Mulkharka. The trek up to Mulkharka is a few hours. From Mulkharka, you will head out to Chisapani. After trekking for 7 hours, you will reach Chisapani. This small settlement offers wonderful views of mountains like Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, and Langtang.

Day 03: Trek to Nagarkot 2,100m. 5 – 6 hrs.

Early morning is the best time for the views of the sunrise over the Himalayan range of peaks from Chisapani. After a wonderful time here, you will continue this lovely trek on the gradual downhill trail towards the south-east. You will follow the wider dirt road built by the Nepalese Army. After an hour of the trek, you will switch back to the off beaten small shortcut path downhill to Chowki Bhanjyang passing through army barrack. Chauki Bhanjyang is a small rural village overlooking the eastern side of the Kathmandu valley rim. From here, the trek continues on an easy trail for few hours as you pass Jarsing Pauwa (1,700m). From Jarsing Pauwa, the trail diverts to the upper level on the small path. It then descends for short distance to Kartike Bhanyang. From this place, an hour climb on the wide trail brings to the popular mountain village at Nagarkot for the overnight stop. All in all, the hike to Nagarkot is 5-6 hours long. Nagarkot lies at an altitude of 2,100 meters above sea-level. Nagarkot is one of the most popular hilltops in Nepal. It is an excellent vantage point for viewing the Kathmandu Valley below. On a clear day, you can see various mountains like Mt. Manaslu, Ganesh Himal and Gauri Shanker.

Day 04: Trek to Dhulikhel 1,550m. 6 hrs.

From Nagarkot, you can catch striking views of the sunrise over the magnificent snow-capped mountains. After spending a mesmerizing morning in Nagarkot, you will head out to Dhulikhel after breakfast. The trail follows a winding path with few gentle up hills and some gradual section. You will also pass through a number of farm villages and cultivated terraced field on this isolated area along the way. This region is rarely trekked by westerners. After trekking for 6 hours from Nagarkot along a pleasant trail, you will get to Dhulikhel (1550 meters). Dhulikhel is an old Newar town that lies beyond the eastern rim of the Valley with comfortable lodging. In Dhulikhel, you will stay in one of the best Mountain Resorts around the valley rim for panoramic views of mountain range.

Day 05: Half day sightseeing tour of Kathmandu.

You will come to Kathmandu from Dhulikhel in one and half hour bus drive. Then, you will head out for a half day sightseeing tour of the capital city of Nepal- Kathmandu. Kathmandu is a modern city that still proudly boasts of the heritage of its ancient culture. You can see the influence of this in the architecture of this city, where you can find modern buildings as well as temples of the medieval age.

Pashupatinath Temple:

Pashupatinath Temple lies banks of the river Bagmati. It is the biggest Hindu temple in the world. It is also the largest. You can see millions of Hindu devotees here in Maha Shivaratri. The temple is replete with ancient stone carvings and images of Lord Shiva and his linga. It is a two-storied temple that has various other temples surrounding it.

Boudhanath Stupa:

Established as a World Heritage Site in 1979 A.D., Boudhanath is one of the holiest Buddhist sites in Kathmandu. It was made in the 5th century C.E. It is a religiously plural place where you can see people of all religions coming here. They rotate the prayer wheels that are abundant in the temple. People make several rounds of this monastery while they are here.

Kathmandu and Patan Durbar Squares:

Kathmandu Durbar Square and Patan Durbar Square are the most famous places in Kathmandu and Patan district in Nepal. These were also the residential palaces of the kings of Kathmandu and Patan in the past. These palaces that lie within the premises of these squares symbolize the delightful architectural styles of Newari artists and craftsmen of medieval Nepal. Krishna Mandir is the most revered temple in Patan. There are plenty of other temples in this area. Hanuman Dhoka complex is the most popular place inside the remits of Kathmandu Durbar Square. You can also visit the museums located in these Durbar Squares.

Day 6: Transfer to Airport for International departure.

Today is the day you will head back to your home country on an international flight. The representatives from Great Adventure Treks will help you transfer you to the international airport on a private transport. You will reach the airport about 3 hours prior to your scheduled flight. Your necessary travel documents including the air ticket needs to be with you while traveling.
