Samye valley trekking or Ganden Samye Trek has the rich cultural heritage of Tibet. The beautiful Ganden Samye Monastery trek tracing the ancient trails where there are still Tibetan herdsmen. The Ganden Samye Trek is an adventure and wilderness trek in Tibet that goes through the alpine landscapes, high lakes, and high passes, the camp of herders on the grazing land of Tibet and the sacred sites.

A Strenuous Trek

A strenuous trek Ganden Samye crosses the two high passes Shung La (5250m) and Chitu La (5100m) that glues the two most important monasteries Ganden and Samye of Tibet. This short adventure trek in Tibet begins at Ganden Monastery (4180m). It is 32km away from Lhasa and ends at Samye monastery. This is a Utse temple in Samye known as Mount Meru represents the center of the universe.

Ganden Samye Trek

Ganden Samye Trek in Yarlung valley is the only authentic way to experience Tibetan cultures and its landscape beauty. May to the middle of October is the best time for this trekking in Tibet. Summer will be wet but the mountains are at their greenest and wildflowers spangle the alpine meadows. Before trekking to Ganden and Samye, we have a couple of days in Lhasa for Lhasa tour and it helps well acclimatized for Ganden Samye trekking.

After the completion of Ganden Samye Trek, we travel along the friendship highway through historic Gyantse and Xigatse to Tigri where you will have a great view of Mount Everest and Cho Oyo before crossing the border into Nepal and on to Kathmandu.

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu.

Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing Tour

Day 03: Kathmandu to Lhasa (3660m)

Day 04/05: Lhasa Sightseeing Tour

Day 06: Lhasa to Ganden, and trek to Gyana.

Day 07: Trek to Yama Do (4490m, 17km, 5 hours)

Day 08: Yama Do to Tsotup Valley (4980m, 10km, 5/6 hours)

Day 09: Tsotup Chu Valley to Herder’s Camp (5077m, 14km, 6/7 hours)

Day 10: Trek to Wangdo (4000m, 25km, 6 hours)

Day 11: Trek to Samye and drive to Gyantse (3990m)

Day 12: Gyantse to Shigatse (3900m, 90km, 3 hours)

Day 13: Shigatse to Nyalam (3700m, 490km, 7/8 hours)

Day 15: Nyalam to Kathmandu (1300m, 150km, 6/7 hours)

Day 16: Kathmandu Airport

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu. Upon arrival at Kathmandu airport, we will receive you there and drive together to hotel for the trip briefing and the completion of your Tibet visa application form.

Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing Tour

Breakfast and Kathmandu guided sightseeing tour visits the important history and heritage sites of Kathmandu such as Kathmandu durbar square, Swoyambhunath stupa, Boudhanath stupa and Pashupatinath Temple. Kathmandu is the fantastic centres of cultural and spritual significance and has more world Heritage sites than any other city in the world.

Day 03: Kathmandu to Lhasa (3660m)

Breakfast and drive to Kathmandu airport for an hour spectacular flight over the Mount Everest to Lhasa. On arrival at Lhasa airport you will be received by your Tibetan tour guide and drive to hotel in Lhasa city that takes 2 hours.

Day 04/05: Lhasa Sightseeing Tour

Lhasa guided tour visit the important historical and heritage sites of Lhasa such as Jokhang temple, Norbulingka, Potala Palace, Barkhor Street, Drepung and Sera monastery.

Day 06: Lhasa to Ganden, and trek to Gyana.

Drive 50km north west of Lhasa to Ganden Monastery, founded in 1400 by Tsongkhapa, is the main seat of the Gelugpa Buddhist sects. Explore the Ganden monastery and commence trek to Gyana.

Day 07: Trek to Yama Do (4490m, 17km, 5 hours)

The five hours trek along an ancient trail and take in scenic views of unusual beauty from the ridge of the ancient view Hepu village. We walk through Ani Pagong, a narrow part of the trail that was once home to a nunnery and ascend to Yama Do.

Day 08: Yama Do to Tsotup Valley (4980m, 10km, 5/6 hours)

Trek through a steep gully to the banks of a stream. Trek up to Shung La pass and begin a descent through fields of glacial boulder. Tsotup Chup is actually a large stream that flows through the valley, and we will cross his tream toward the end of the trek.

Day 09: Tsotup Chu Valley to Herder’s Camp (5077m, 14km, 6/7 hours)

Trek following the Tsotup Chu towards the rocky mountain pass of Chitu La and descend into the exquisitely beautiful camping grounds and fields around the tributary of the Tsotup Cho. En route we pass the picturesque Herder’s camp.

Day 10: Trek to Wangdo (4000m, 25km, 6 hours)

The easy trek through alpine forest and lakes. There has contrast landscapes pass the village of Changtang and Yamalung, and ancient hermitage. Final leg of the trek cuts through the Samye valley along a beautiful stream.

Day 11: Trek to Samye and drive to Gyantse (3990m)

Trek to Samye, visit Samye monastery and drive to Gyantse is a remarkable place that has escaped from much of the Chinese influence.

Day 12: Gyantse to Shigatse (3900m, 90km, 3 hours)

Guided Gyantse sightseeing visit Gyantse Dzong and Kumbum monasterya and drive to Xigatse, the second largest town of Tibet. In the aftern visit Tashilunpo Monastery of Xigatse, the seat of Panchen Lama literally the Great Scholar.

Day 13: Shigatse to Nyalam (3700m, 490km, 7/8 hours)

Breakfast and continue drive to Friendship highway to Nyalam. Drive accross the rolling plains of the Tibetan Plateau to reach the Lalung La (5050m) and head down to the spectacular bhote koshi gorge to Nyalam.

Day 15: Nyalam to Kathmandu (1300m, 150km, 6/7 hours)

Breakfast and drive down to Tibet/Nepal border via Kerung. After completing immigration and customs formalities in Tibet and Nepal, we continue drive by our private bus or Jeep to Kathmandu.

Day 16: Kathmandu Airport

Breakfast and final airport trasnfer to get your flight back to home or onward destinations.
