Thyangboche Monastery and Sherpa Land Trekking, organized by The Great Adventure Treks is truly blessed with an incredible diversity of natural and cultural beauty. This trek offers super Himalayan scenery which includes Mt. Everest, Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Lhotse, and Mt. Thamserku.

This wonderful trek starts from the amazing short flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. After you reach Lukla, you’ll continue your trek through Phakding, Monjo, Jorsalle, Namche Bazaar and finally reach Thyangboche village.

Thyangboche village is famous for Tengboche Monastery which is also known as Thyangboche or Dawa Choling Gompa. It is one of the largest monasteries in the Everest region. It rests at the altitude of 3,867 meters at the top of the hill and offers the magnificent view of mountain ranges of the Everest region.

After exploring the Thyangboche village the trek further leads you to a lovely Khumjung village. In this village, you can visit Khumjung monastery and Hillary school. Also, here you can interact with the Sherpa people and understands their way of living. Finally, from Khumjung, the trail leads to Monjo and Lukla where your trek ends and you’ll take a flight back to Kathmandu.

Walking through the picturesque Sherpa village and visiting the sacred Tengboche Monastery is the main attraction of Thyangboche Monastery and Sherpa Land Trek.

Likewise, this short Thyangboche Monastery and Sherpa Land Trek is perfect for the time-bound as well who are unable to go to the high altitude trek for various reasons.

Thyangboche Monastery and Sherpa Land Trek is one of the shortest and easiest trekking routes of the Everest region. So, experienced as well as novice trekkers can enjoy this trek. But you need a good fitness level to make your trek adventurous and successful.

What is the Best Time This Trek?

The best time for Thyangboche Monastery and Sherpa Land Trek is spring and autumn season. During the spring, the weather is stable and also the hills are well covered by the variety of colorful rhododendron flowers which make this place even more beautiful.

Another best time is the autumn season when the temperature is moderate with stable weather conditions. Also, every October, Tengboche Monastery hosts the colorful Mani Rimdu festival.

Extended Trips

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu (1,300m) via Respective Airlines

Welcome the land of the Himalayas, Nepal! On your arrival, The Great Adventure Treks representatives will receive you from the airport and transfer to the respective hotel in Kathmandu. After checking in the hotel, you’ll get some time for the refreshment.

In the evening, you’ll attend a small team meeting at our office. You’ll get introduced to our guide and there will be a little trip discussion. After that, you can visit nearby popular tourist hub Thamel and enjoy Nepalese cuisine. Overnight stay at Kathmandu.

Day 02: Half day sightseeing tour of Kathmandu

Well, Kathmandu is the cultural city of Nepal. It has been a popular cultural and historical destination for the tourists ever since Nepal has opened a door to foreign visitors. Thus, there are several historical landmarks including Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, Swyambhunath, and Basantapur Durbar Square.

Later in the evening, you’ll return to your hotel and prepare for an upcoming adventurous trek. Overnight stay at Kathmandu.

Day 03: Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla & trek to Phakding (2,660m) 2-3 hrs

After early morning breakfast, you’ll head towards the domestic terminal of Tribhuvan International Airport. Kathmandu to Lukla flight takes around 45 minutes. During the flight, you can explore the beautiful view of hills, mountain, and Khumbu valley.

Once you land at Lukla airport, several guide and porters will greet you. It’s a great feeling to get a warm welcome by local people. In the Lukla airport, you’ll see several smiling faces of Sherpa people.

After taking rest for some time, you’ll start your trek towards Phakding village (2,660 m) which is about 3-4 hours walk from Lukla. ,

You’ll spend a night at one of the finest teahouses of Phakding village.

Day 04: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440m) 5 – 6 hrs

From Phakding, after having breakfast you’ll start your trek towards Namche. You’ll follow the west bank of the Dudh Koshi river. Enroute you’ll cross several numbers of high suspension bridges over Dudh Koshi river.

After a few hours of walk, you’ll reach Monjo village where there is the entrance to the Sagarmatha National Park. From here onwards, the trail gets steeper and you’ll also get the first glimpse of Mt. Everest.

Total after 5-6 hours of walk you’ll arrive at Namche Bazaar (3,440 m) for an overnight stay. Upon your arrival at Namche, you can explore the town as it is a great place to stroll around. There are numerous bakery-cafes, a small shop selling trekking gear as well as restaurants and bars.

Day 05: Rest Day at Namche Bazaar

Today is your rest day at Namche Bazaar, so you’ll get a whole day to explore Namche Bazaar and the surrounding places. Namche is an ideal place to spend a day acclimatizing to the high altitude.

You can go for an hour hike to the Everest View Hotel above Namche which offer a superb view of some notable peaks like Mt. Everest, Mt Ama Dablam, Mt. Nuptse, and Mt. Lhotse. You can also visit the Khunde hospital set up by Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Culture Museum.

Since tomorrow you’ve to trek for several hours so you’ll return to the hotel and have some rest. You’ll spend the night at the previous lodge of Namche Bazaar.

Day 06: Trek to Thyangboche (3,860m) 5 hours

After early morning breakfast in Namche, following the trail along the side of the valley above the Dudh Koshi River, you’ll start your trek. Today en route you’ll enjoy the fascinating views of the Khumbu region’s giant peaks including Mt. Everest, Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt. Nuptse, and Mt. Lhotse.

After passing several teahouses and villages you’ll reach the village of Phunki Tenga. This is an ideal stop to take lunch and rest before making the steep climb to Tengboche. So, after taking rest for some time you’ll continue your trek towards Tengboche.

Although the walk is strenuous the awesome views of beautiful rhododendron forests, colorful birds, and superb mountain scenery will take your breath away!

After 5 hours of walk, you’ll reach Thyangboche village (3,860m) which is famous for its legendary Tengboche monastery. It is one of the largest monasteries in the Khumbu region. And the spectacular scenery of the above-mentioned peaks will reward you once again.

Day 07: Trek to Khumjung (3,790m) 5 hrs

After having breakfast in Tengboche, you’ll return to Khumjung villages. This Khumjung village stands on the top of Namche Bazaar which gives you fantastic views of Himalayan panorama. The trail is pretty much flat and gentle downs.

On the whole route, you’ll enjoy the beautiful views of the aforementioned peaks. After 5 hours of relaxing walk, you’ll reach Khumjung village (3,790 m) for an overnight stay.

Khumjung village is a small beautiful village which is still untouched by the modern world. The way of the living of people here is totally different from the people in the city area. You can visit Khumjung Monastery which is famous for a rare piece of Yeti Scalp. Also, you can have a small visit to a historical Khumjung School which is famous as Hillary School.

Day 08: Trek to Monjo (2,830m) 4 – 5 hrs

From Khumjung village, you’ll head back to Monjo village. Descending along the Dudh Koshi River, you’ll pass through several monasteries and Mani walls on your way to Monjo. First, you’ll reach Jorsalee, where you’ll cross the suspension bridge over Dudh Koshi River and leaving behind the Sagarmatha National Park you’ll reach Monjo (2,830 m) for the overnight stay.

Day 09: Trek to Lukla 5 hrs

After having breakfast in Monjo, you’ll trek back to Lukla. This is your last day of the trekking. You’ll descend through the villages of Benkar and Phakding. Enroute you’ll pass through several Mani stones, Prayer wheels, and Chortens. After 5 hours of walk, you’ll reach Lukla for an overnight stay.

Day 10: Fly Lukla-Kathmandu

Early in the morning, you’ll have a delicious breakfast enjoying the view of the mountain range for the last time. Then, you’ll catch a flight back to Kathmandu which will once again take you above the beautiful mountain and green hills.

Our representative will receive you from the airport and drive you to the respective hotel. Today, you’ll have a whole day to explore the market of Kathmandu valley by yourself. Overnight stay at Kathmandu.

Day 11: Transfer to Airport for the International departure.

Today is your last day in the land of the Himalayas and now it’s time to say goodbye to Nepal. The Great Adventure Treks representative will drop you to the airport for your return flight home. It’s good to be at the airport at least 3 hours prior to your departure. Have a safe journey hope to see you again!
