Altitude Sickness: Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour
Altitude sickness, also known as Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), can occur when traveling to high altitudes where oxygen levels are lower. While the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour minimizes the risk of AMS by reducing prolonged exposure to high altitudes, the sudden ascent to elevations above 5,000 meters (e.g., Kala Patthar at 5,545m) may still trigger mild symptoms in some individuals.
Symptoms of Altitude Sickness
Common symptoms to watch for during the tour include:
Mild Symptoms:
Headache
Dizziness
Nausea or loss of appetite
Shortness of breath
Fatigue
Severe Symptoms (Rare on this tour):
Confusion or disorientation
Difficulty breathing even at rest
Loss of consciousness
if severe symptoms occur, immediate descent to a lower altitude is necessary.
Preventive Measures
Here are some tips to reduce the risk of altitude sickness during the helicopter tour:
Hydration:
Stay well-hydrated throughout the journey. Avoid caffeine and alcohol.
Diet:
Eat light and easily digestible meals before and during the trip.
Clothing:
Wear warm and comfortable clothing to prevent cold stress, which can exacerbate symptoms.
Oxygen Support:
Helicopters are equipped with supplemental oxygen. Use it if you feel any symptoms of AMS.
Acclimatization (Optional):
If you are prone to altitude sickness, spending a day or two in Lukla or a similar mid-altitude location before the tour may help.
Medication:
Consider taking Diamox (Acetazolamide) as a preventive measure, but only after consulting with a healthcare provider.
Why Altitude Sickness is Rare on This Tour
Short Duration at High Altitude: The helicopter stays at high altitudes (e.g., Kala Patthar) for only 10–15 minutes, reducing prolonged exposure.
Quick Access to Lower Altitudes: The helicopter can rapidly descend to lower altitudes, minimizing the risk of severe AMS.
Professional Support: Pilots and guides are trained to handle high-altitude conditions and can provide immediate assistance if symptoms arise.

Good experience in Buthan tour
I joined the tour of Buthan for 3 nights. Although the price is high because I am in a solo trip, the quality is good! Buthan is the cleanest country in the world! You don’t need to worry about anything just be happy and excited to join the tour! I just went for 3nights-tour, but I did visit Paro, Thimpu, Punakha ! Although not every sighting sites that would visit, the important sites would not miss! This is my second time join the tour in this travel agency, and I was satiated with it every time ! They will handle everything well.
