The Khumbu region, native to the world’s peak Everest, is on many people’s bucket lists. It offers options for various trekking and mountain climbing adventures. Among these is the Everest Three Passes trek. The Everest Three Pass trek is a variation of the trek in the trails of Khumbu. It allows trekkers to cross three significant high-altitude passes in the Khumbu region. You will even get to reach the base camp of Everest. It is a great way to explore the place that houses the world’s peak.

The trek is a great way to visit interesting locations of Khumbu , like Namache Bazaar. Along with that, you also get to explore various remote Buddhist hamlets. Walking via trails of the Sagarmatha National Park , you encounter various rare fauna and floras.

Vistas of the trek will be out of the world. You will see Everest up close, along with several other Himalayas in the vicinity. Mountains like Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, etc., are also visible during this trek. They will look quite ethereal as you pass the challenging three passes of the trek.

The trek will be a 16-day long journey that takes you through several regions of Khumbu. We kick off the trek by leaving Kathmandu for Lukla. Then, we ended it back by returning to Kathmandu.

The journey will begin with you catching a flight from Kathmandu or Ramechhap(Manthali Airport) for a scenic flight to Lukla. Then, you will head towards Phakding, walking through alpine woods and crossing some suspension bridges. From Phakding, follow the route towards Namche Bazaar. Next, passing Tengboche and Pangboche, we will hike toward the Sherpa hamlet of Dingboche. You will walk from Pangboche to Chukkung, crossing the Imja Tse valley. We will now cross the first pass of the trek, Kogma La Pass and go from Chukkung to Lobuche.

We will now traverse via the regular Everest Base Camp trek map from Lobuche. We will walk through Gorakshep and will trek to Everest Base Camp. From base camp, we will then head to Kalapatthar. To get here, you have to climb a bit higher than Gorakshep. The walk continues from Kalapatthar to Dzongla on the designated trail. You will cross another pass, Cho La Pass, to go to Drangnang(Thagnak) from Dzongla.

From Drangnang(Thagnak), we will trek towards Gokyo's major fifth Lake. Then, we will cross through the last pass on the Everest Three Passes trek. We will descend to Lungdhen after crossing the Renjo La Pass. The trail rejoins the standard EBC trekking trails from Lungdhen and travels via Thame to reach Namche Bazaar. We will now retrace steps back home along the same route. Proceed to Lukla via Phakding along the Dudh Koshi routes. The final step will be to take a flight back to Kathmandu/Ramechhap from Lukla.

Our 16-day Everest Three Passes trek includes all the necessary tools. We cover your transportation, fooding, lodging, permits, guides, etc. for you. If you need clarity about the trip’s details, fret not. We have brought you details of the itinerary and necessary points for the trek here!

Difficulty level of the Everest Three Passes Trek

Difficulty-level-of-the-Everest-Three-Passes-Trek

The Everest Three Passes trek is one of the most challenging treks Nepal has to offer. You ought to traverse through high-altitude trails. Along with that, three challenging passes must be conquered. The difficulty level of the Everest Three Passes Trek is graded 9 on a scale of 10. The Everest Base Camp regular route trek in itself is quite challenging. And when you add the challenging Three Passes to the trek, the difficulty gets stacked.

If you are not an experienced trekker, we would suggest you think twice about doing this trek. We highly encourage people to get into their best physical form to do this trek. Or else it would be very difficult for you to complete this trek. You will have to trek for around 16 days and have to travel as high as 5555 meters. The chances of altitude sickness increase massively. The routes of the trek consist of rocky mountains and fragile glaciers that are scary to approach. However, they do give you amazing rewards. Incredible mountain views, mesmerizing glacier lakes, and valleys make the trek worth it.

In case you find the Everest Three Passes Trek very challenging, you could also do the regular Everest Base Camp trek. It is shorter and easier but still a great way to explore the wilderness of Khumbu.

Best Time and Season for the Everest Three Passes Trek

Best-Time-for-the-Everest-Three-Passes-Trek

The best time for the Everest Three Passes Trek is spring and autumn. The months of April, May, and June commemorate spring in Nepal. Similarly, September, October, and November are considered autumn months. These months make up for the best time for a duration trek in the Himalayan foothills. The weather is quite stable, and the chances of rainfall or snowstorms are less. This reduces the chances of landslides, avalanches, or roadblocks. It also makes the trails dry, making them risk-free from injuries caused by slippery trails.

These months are also best temperature-wise as the climate is not very hot or too frigid. Your packing list is easier to create, too. The spring and autumn months also bring clear blue skies. The lack of obstructing clouds in the skies makes it easier for you to view the mountains. Similarly, the spring months bring the Nepali new year. The autumn months also bring the festival season in Nepal. So overall, spring and autumn are great times to visit and trek in Nepal.

Off-season treks are also possible, but should be done with a lot of caution. You also need to know that the onset of autumn has been delayed in Nepal for the past few years. Monsoon withdraws in late September, and September might not be fit for autumn treks. Make sure you check this beforehand to decide your best time for the Everest Three Passes Trek.

I joined the tour of Buthan for 3 nights. Although the price is high because I am in a solo trip, the quality is good! Buthan is the cleanest country in the world! You don’t need to worry about anything just be happy and excited to join the tour! I just went for 3nights-tour, but I did visit Paro, Thimpu, Punakha ! Although not every sighting sites that would visit, the important sites would not miss! This is my second time join the tour in this travel agency, and I was satiated with it every time !
